McFarland Cable is moving
McFarland Cable Channel 12 moves to Channel 98 analog and digital 982.
As a result of a recent law deregulating cable television in Wisconsin the cable provider for the Village, Charter Communications, will be moving McFarland Community Cable Channel 12 to analog channel 98 and to digital channel 982 prior to October, 2008. The new location for WMCF-McFarland Community Cable Channel will be part of a public affairs neighborhood, a block of channels 980-999 that will include CSPAN II, CSPAN III, Wisconsin Eye (state government programming), along with other community channels from the Greater Madison and Dane County area (Including Madison, Fitchburg, stoughton, Oregon, Monona, Cottage Grove, and Brooklyn.)
In order to continue seeing McFarland Village Board and Plan Commission meetings, School Board meetings, high school sporting events, performing arts, school news, parades or any of the other programs offered by WMCF-TV,viewers will need to program channel 98 into your tv or viewers will need a digital TV with a QAM tuner (ch. 982-1). If you do not have a digital TV, you will need to obtain a set-top digital converter box from Charter (ch. 982).
Be advised that the Charter box is NOT the same box being advertised by broadcasters as a way of receiving digital over-the-air signals after the national conversion to digital which will take place in 2009.
Charter Cable is required by law to provide space on its basic tier for local community access television channels. Charter will continue to include WMCF McFarland Cable in their basic cable service at the existing subscription rate. However, our channel will be relocated to analog cable channel 98.
Customers who want to upgrade to a digital converter box (viewers will need one per TV they want to watch digital programming on) or comment about this change can call Charter customer service at (888) 438-2427.
